The UTEP women’s tennis team will host its final home matches of the season at the El Paso Tennis Club, as NM State and No. 53 New Mexico come to town.
First, the Miners will host NM State (10-7, 5-0 WAC) on Friday with the match scheduled to start at 4 p.m. MT. On Saturday UTEP (10-9, 2-1 C-USA) will take on New Mexico (11-6, 4-0 Mountain West) in its final home match scheduled at 11 a.m.
The team will honor senior Matilda Tench at the New Mexico match.
Tench’s current singles record is 45-64 with her best season as far as wins and winning percentage coming in 2016 where she has gone 10-18 for a .555 winning percentage. As a doubles player, Tench found her best success with Duda Santos as they combined a doubles record of 14-12 in 2015 for a .577 winning percentage.
The Miners dropped their final road match of the season, 6-1, to SMU at the SMU Tennis Complex in Dallas, Texas. But freshman Maria Paula Medina shined earning the only match point for the Orange and Blue with a 6-3, 6-4 victory at the No. 6 spot.
