UTEP XC Set to Compete at Mountain Regionals on Friday in Provo
The UTEP cross country will compete at the 2021 NCAA Mountain Regionals hosted by BYU on Friday.
The women will start at 11 a.m. MT, while the no. 11-ranked men’s team will shoot off at Noon at Timpanogos Golf Club in Provo, Utah.
“Our teams head to Provo, Utah, for the Mountain Regionals cross country meet. The women will field the entire squad while the men will field everyone accept [Titus] Cheruiyot and Yusuf [Mohamud]. Although this a regional meet, the Mountain Region is the elite region in collegiate cross country running,” UTEP Head Coach Paul Ereng said. “We’re excited to compete against some of the top teams in the nation. This should be a competitive meet on both sides.”
Competing against the Miners on the men’s side are Montana, Utah State, Northern Arizona, Texas Tech, BYU, Wyoming, Southern Utah, New Mexico, Colorado State, Weber State, NM State, Montana State, Utah Valley, Air Force, Colorado, Idaho State and Nevada.
The UTEP women are going against Southern Utah, Wyoming, Air Force, BYU, Idaho State, Nevada, Texas Tech, Weber State, NM State, Colorado, Utah State, Montana State, Colorado State, Utah, Utah Valley, Montana, New Mexico and Northern Arizona.
The Northern Arizona men’s team ranks no. 1 in the region, while the women’s BYU squad is ranked first.
Making the trip for the men’s team are Gabriel Armijo, Maxwell Kipkosgei, Rodgers Korir, Juan Olmos, Michael Sims and Kenneth Talavera.
Traveling for the women are Carolyne Chepkosgei, Karoline Daland, Ruth Jerubet, Joan Kimaiyo, Andrea Lucero, Jacquilyn Orozco and Victoria Ovalles.
