UTEP’s Ambrosius invited to play in Sun Bowl All-America Golf Classic

UTEP’s own Oskar Ambrosius has been invited to participate in the 2019 Sun Bowl All-America Golf Classic, which is set to begin on Sunday, Nov.ember 24 in El Paso.

The 2019 Sun Bowl Marathon All-America Golf Classic will be held Nov. 24-26 at the El Paso Country Club, where the best college golfers in the country will look to etch their names onto the tournament’s illustrious history.

Ambrosius is the first UTEP golfer since Chris Baryla in 2003 to compete in the annual tournament. The junior wrapped up the fall season with a stroke average of 71.5 in 15 rounds of golf, while he posted 11 par or better rounds in five tournaments played this fall.

Additionally, Ambrosius notched four top 10 finishes this past fall, including three top five performances and an individual title at the CSU Ram Masters Invitational on Sept. 17 in Fort Collins, Colorado.

In that event, Ambrosius shot a career-low 65 in the opening round and finished the tournament 9-under-par (201).

The three-day, 54-hole event will be held at the El Paso Country Club and is set to get underway on Sunday with a long drive competition, putting contest and Pro-Am.

The first and second rounds are set for 8 a.m. MT on Monday and Tuesday (Nov. 25-26), while the third and final round will tee off at 8 a.m. MT on Tuesday morning.

The Sun Bowl Marathon All-America Golf Classic is one of the premier college golf tournaments in the country. Some of golf’s brightest stars have traveled to El Paso to compete in the tournament since its inaugural year in 1974.

Tiger Woods, Phil Mickelson, Jordan Spieth, Dustin Johnson and Rickie Fowler are just a handful of past participants who went on to have highly successful PGA careers. Sun Bowl All-America Golf Classic Alumni have combined to win 54 major championships and have earned over $2.12 billion in career earnings.
