Irving, Texas – For the third time during the outdoor season, Tobi Amusan was named the Conference USA Female Track Athlete of the Week for her performance last weekend at the UTEP Invitational; she is the only athlete in C-USA to be awarded a weekly honor three times during the outdoor season.
Amusan clocked the best time of her career with a blazing time of 12.83 in the 100m hurdles to rank eighth fastest in the world in 2016. The 12.83 broke Kim Turner’s (1983) school record by .12 seconds. It is the second fastest time ever ran by a woman under the age of 20 in the world and it currently ranks fourth fastest in the NCAA.
She returned to the track two hours later and dazzled the crowd with a 23.24 200m dash time to take gold. It was the sixth-fastest time ran in program history and ranks No. 1 in Conference USA.
The UTEP track and field team will take a week off and then head to Murfreesboro, Tenn., from May 12-16for the Conference USA Championships.
