IRVING, Texas – UTEP cross country’s Antony Kosgei was voted to the Conference USA All-Academic team on Thursday morning. Kosgei was awarded for his notable performance in the classroom, and impressive athleticism on the course.
Back-to-back First Team All-Conference honoree, Kosgei represents No.15 UTEP men’s team on the all-academic recognition team. The sophomore standout holds a 3.73 GPA with a major in environmental science. He is coming off a triumphant victory at C-USA Championships, where his fifth place 8K showing (24:15.30) propelled the Miners to defend the championship crown.
The Eldoret, Kenya native has finished every collegiate meet this season in the top-10, highlighted by a 10th-place finish at the 2016 NCAA Pre Nationals. His efforts will aid the men’s squad on Friday in the NCAA Mountain Regionals in Logan, Utah. The Orange and Blue are set to run in the 10K event as they seek to secure a berth in the NCAA Championships.
The 2016 C-USA All-Academic Team is made up of 12 total athletes (six male and six female) who are able to maintain a GPA of a 3.2 or higher, and contribute influential success to their respective team’s efforts.
