Irving, Texas – Ada Benjamin and Nickevea Wilson were named the Conference USA Indoor Track and Field Athletes of the Week on Tuesday by the conference offices for their performance at the Lumberjack Team Challenge last weekend in Flagstaff, Ariz.
Wilson debuted for the 2016 season with a strong showing in her best event, the triple jump. The senior out-jumped nine other athletes on her way to securing gold.
On her first jump of the event, the Jamaican nailed a mark of 12.96m (42-6.25), which was the winning distance.
Her mark is the fourth longest in the country and the best in C-USA. This is Wilson’s second-career
C-USA Indoor Athlete of the Week honor.
Benjamin dashed to an altitude-converted 400m dash time of 54.64 to secure second place in a field of 38 runners.
Benjamin’s time was the seventh fastest in program history and currently ranks 13th in the NCAA. This is Benjamin’s first-career C-USA Athlete of the Week award.
The women’s team went 5-2 in the dual meet scoring defeating Arizona, San Diego State, UC Irvine, Southern Utah and Northern Arizona.
The Miners are back in action this weekend at the Cherry & Silver Invitational (Friday and Saturday) in Albuquerque, N.M.
