UTEP’s Briana Arellano Receives C-USA Spirit of Service Award

DALLAS – UTEP volleyball’s Briana Arellano was recognized as one of the 13 recipients of the Conference USA Spirit of Service award, the league announced on Wednesday afternoon.

The C-USA Spirit of Service Award is designed to recognize the community service efforts of the league’s student-athletes, based upon significant community service, good academic standing and participation in their elected sport.

“Knowing that I am being recognized for serving the El Paso community, the community I grew up in, is such an honor.” Arellano said.

Arellano accumulated 20 hours of service during the fall semester. She volunteered with the Game Changers Youth Volleyball Camp, assisting kids with their volleyball skills to youth. The outside hitter also helped with the UTEP Alumni Picnic.

The junior was named the Miners’ captain, and was one of three players on the squad to pass the century mark in both kills and digs in the season.

She is a two-time Conference USA Commissioner’s Academic Honor Roll recipient (2017 & 2018) and a C-USA Academic Medal honoree for the 2016-2017 academic year.

“Being able to play and give back has always been my goal, and it is amazing that I am being recognized for it.” Arellano said.
