Dallas – UTEP track and field student-athlete Chantoba Bright was named the Conference USA Female Athlete of the Week the league announced on Tuesday.
In her first meet competing in the triple jump, the freshman got off on the right foot posting a personal-best leap of 12.77m at the New Mexico Collegiate Classic.
The jumper now checks in at 30th nationally and second in C-USA in the triple jump. Bright also ranks sixth all-time in the UTEP record book in the event.
This is the first C-USA Female Athlete of the Week honor for the freshman and the first of the season for the Miners.
The track and field team will hit the road on Friday to compete in the Don Kirby Collegiate Invitational in Albuquerque, N.M.
