UTEP’s Niesha Burgher won her second Conference USA Outdoor Female Track Athlete of the Week honor as announced by league officials on Tuesday. All C-USA weekly awards are presented by Blenders Eyewear.

Burgher sprinted out to an impressive performance in the 100-meter dash despite the windy conditions at the Don Kirby Tailwind Open hosted by New Mexico on April 20. Burgher clocked in an 11.23 (3.5) and finished in second place overall. Burgher’s time, due to the high winds, doesn’t count towards her personal-best, however the time still ranks 25th nationally and first in Conference USA.
Her previous weekly honor came on April 11 after placing first in the women’s 200-meter dash, clocking in a personal-best 23.19 at the 2023 New Mexico Spring Invitational in Albuquerque at the UNM Track & Field Complex on April 6. Burgher added a second PR, churning out a 53.69 in the women’s 400-meter race and placing second.
Burgher is the first UTEP female track athlete to win the weekly honor multiple times during an outdoor season since Tobi Amusan did so in 2017 (March 28, April 4).
