UTEP’s Daland, Jerubet Claim Gold at Roadrunner Invitational

SAN ANTONIO – Karoline Daland won her second 3000m steeplechase of the season, and Ruth Jerubet claimed her first career 5000m run victory during UTEP’s first day of competition at the Roadrunner Invitational at UTSA Park West Athletics Complex on Friday evening.

Daland clocked in an 11:17.03, ahead of Madison Henry (11:26.66) of Incarnate Word and UTRGV’s Samantha Gonzalez (11:55.33). Daland currently holds the top time in Conference USA with a 10:47.78 at the Texas Relays on March 25.

Jerubet blew by her competition, clocking in a 17:27.43. The freshman from Kapsabet, Kenya, beat out Texas A&M-Corpus Christi’s Valentina Campos (18:24.32). Jerubet’s teammate Joan Kimaiyo finished third with a time of 18:54.09.

In the men’s 5000m run, Titus Cheruiyot (14:47.63) claimed silver and Maxwell Kipkosgei (15:09.02) won bronze.

On Saturday, the field events will commence at 10 a.m. MT while the track competition will start at 1 p.m. MT.
