UTEP’s Downs Selected to Women’s Golf All-Conference USA Team
UTEP junior Lily Downs was one of 15 student-athletes voted to the 2018 women’s golf All-Conference USA Team.
Members of the C-USA Team were announced on Friday; Downs is a second team selection.
The first team is composed of Middle Tennessee’s Hanley Long, Old Dominion’s Maggie Simmermacher and Katerina Vlasinova, UTSA’s Julie Houston and WKU’s Mary Joiner.
Joining Downs on the second team are Middle Tennessee’s Jenna Burris, North Texas’ Lauren Cox, UTSA’s Ana Gonzalez and WKU’s Georgina Blackman.
Third team honorees are FIU’s Valentina Gilly and Katerina Krasova, Marshall’s Shelby Brauckmuller, Southern Miss’ Nichada Satasuk and UAB’s Maria Donado.
A native of Kirklevington, Yarm, U.K., Downs posted a team-leading 74.1 scoring average this season. She also paced the Miners in top-10 finishes (six) and top-20 showings (seven), with her season-best second place coming at the Little Rock/A-State Invitational in Maumelle, Ark. Downs tied for fifth place at the Conference USA Championships, earning a spot on the All-Tournament Team.
Downs led UTEP to top-three finishes at seven of 10 tournaments, including runner-up at the Conference USA Championship.
