One day after being named the Conference USA Golfer of the Year, junior Frederik Dreier learned his postseason fate. The righty will make the short trip up to Albuquerque to play at the Championship Course on May 16-18
This will be Dreier’s first NCAA Regional appearance in his three years at UTEP. The Denmark native will be looking to secure his berth for that all-illusive spot at the NCAA Championships in Eugene, Ore. The low five teams and the low individual not on one of those five teams from each regional will advance to the NCAA Championships; there are six regionals hosted throughout the country.
Dreier is averaging a career best stroke average of 71.81 this season; that number also leads C-USA. In the 11 tournaments played this year, Dreier was UTEP’s top finisher at eight of those events.
The Denmark native carded five top-10 finishes during the season. The Denmark native finished second at the Herb Wimberly Intercollegiate (71-71-70-212/-1), third at the Gene Miranda Invitational (68-70-72-210/-6), fifth at the Price’s Give Em Five Invitational (64-70-72-206/-10), sixth at the Gene Miranda Invitational (68-70-72-210/-6) and sixth recently at the Conference USA Championships (73-73-72-218/+2).
Dreier has played at the Championship Course three times during his career. He holds a 76.0 stroke average in nine rounds played at the course. His best finish in Albuquerque came last fall when he placed 24th with a four-over par 220 (74-74-72).
