UTEP male golfer Frederik Dreier was one of five Conference USA athletes selected for the All-Academic team released today. This is the first time Dreier has received this recognition in his career.
Dreier has excelled in the classroom and on the links all year long. The junior possesses a 3.40 GPA while majoring in marketing; the Denmark native also leads the team with a career-best 71.7 strokes per round in 2015-16.
Dreier is one of only two Miners to play in all ten tournaments this year. Out of the 10 tournaments played, he has been UTEP’s top finisher seven times and recorded four top-10 finishes. He placed second at the Herb Wimberly Intercollegiate with a one-under par 212 and help UTEP secure its first team win since 2005.
He also placed third at the Gene Miranda Invitational (six-under par 210), fifth at the Price’s Give ‘Em Five Invitational (10-under par 206) and sixth at the National Invitational Tournament (eight-under par 208). He also recorded the lowest round of his career at the Price’s Give ‘Em Five Invitational when he fired an eight-under par 64 in the first round.
Other honorees are Victor Lange (Louisiana Tech), Michael Cotton (North Texas), James Lee (Rice), Mario Carmona (Rice) and Trey Aguirre (WKU).
