UTEP’s Jones Earns Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Semifinalist Honors

El Paso native Aaron Jones was named a 2016 Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Semifinalist, The Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award Selection Committee announced on Monday.

This is the second semifinalist honor for Jones this season. This year’s candidates include nine quarterbacks, three running backs and four wide receivers. Seven different conferences are represented.

The running back is not only UTEP’s all-time leading rusher (3,813 yards) but is the fifth-leading rusher in the FBS with 1,472 yards. Jones also ranks sixth nationally in rushing yards per game (133.8) and rates tied for 16th with 13 rushing touchdowns.

The junior has ran for over 100 yards for the 16th time in his career and has gone over the century mark on six occasions in 2016. Jones has racked up 1,694 all-purpose yards, 16 touchdowns and 96 points this season.

Finalists will be selected from this group and announced on December 7, 2016. The winner will be announced at the award banquet in Tyler, Texas on January 11, 2017.

The Miners will be in action on Saturday at 2 p.m. MT at the Sun Bowl.
