UTEP’s Koech Qualifies For Mile Finals at NCAA Championships
Birmingham, Ala.- Jonah Koech eased his way into the finals of the mile by winning his heat with a time of 4:07.50 on Friday afternoon at the Birmingham CrossPlex.
The freshman, who clocked the fastest preliminary time in the field of 16 runners, ran a smart, tactical race from start to finish. Koech will look to become the fifth Miner in program history to secure gold in the mile at the NCAA Championships.
Koech has not lost a mile race during 2016. The finals will air on espn3.com Saturday afternoon at 3 p.m. (MT). Senior Nickevea Wilson will also be competing in the triple jump.
