IRVING, Texas- After two consecutive weeks of flawless play, UTEP women’s tennis star Vivienne Kulicke was named the Conference USA Women’s Tennis Athlete of the Week for the week of Jan. 24.
The accolade comes after her efforts with partner Milou Pietersz to knock off the No. 16 nationally ranked (Intercollegiate Tennis Association) doubles team out of TCU Donika Bashota and Olaya Garrido-Rivas 6-1 and took down both her TCU and Abilene Christian opponents on Saturday.
The junior is now on a 5-0 start in the spring singles play, starting with her performance on Jan. 15 that garnered her the TCU Spring Invitational singles co-champion as well as 4-1 in doubles play with Pietersz.
The Hamburg, Germany, native was ranked No. 101 in the ITA preseason poll in September and will be anticipating breaking into the rankings this week. This is Kulicke’s first C-USA award of the season and the second of her career.
