UTEP’s Kulicke Named TCU Spring Invite Singles Champion

FORT WORTH, Texas- For her efforts in the TCU Spring Invitational, UTEP junior Vivienne Kulicke was crowned the singles co-champion. Kulicke went 3-0 in her singles events, defeating TCU’s Alexis Pereira and Texas State’s Eva Dench on Saturday and taking down ULM’s Stefana Andrei in three rounds (6-3, 3-6, 6-3) today. Kulicke shares the title with TCU’s Sofiko Kadzhaya.

The Miners wrapped up the final day of the invite by taking two wins against ULM. Along with Kulicke, junior Milou Pietersz also defeated her ULM opponent, Patricia Villar 6-3, 6-4.

Daphne Visscher took the Warhawks’ Tiffany Mylonas to three rounds but ultimately fell 2-6, 6-1, 6-2. Miners Raven Bennett and Maria Paula Medina were both defeated by ULM.

The Miners will travel to Abilene, Texas to face off against Abilene Christian University and TCU on Jan. 21. First serve against the Horned Frogs will be at 8 a.m. MT and the Miners will take on the Wildcats at 5 p.m.

Madalina Grigoriu (ULM) def. Maria Paula Medina (UTEP): 6-1, 6-0
