Irving, Texas – Lucia Mokrasova was rewarded for her excellent performance this weekend in the pentathlon at the Texas A&M Invitational by being named the Conference USA Female Field Athlete of the Week.
Mokrasova broke the school record in the pentathlon by scoring 3,950 points. Mokrasova, who was competing in her first full pentathlon upon arriving in El Paso, eclipsed Jallycia Pearson’s (2015) school record by 82 points.
The 3,950 points scored by Mokrasova helped her earn a fourth-place showing in a field of 18 athletes; the point total ranks 18th nationally and first in Conference USA by nearly more than 600 points.
The sophomore started her day off with a time of 8.79 (954 points) in the 60m hurdles. She then progressed onto clearing 1.66m (5-5.25) in the high jump for 806 points. The multi-athlete launched the fourth-longest shot put throw of the day with a heave of 12.87m (42-2.75) for 719 points. Her long jump of 5.63m (18-5.75) was the second longest in the field and earned herself 738 points. She closed out the record-breaking performance with a 800m run time of 2:26.85 for 733 points.
The Miners will attend two meets this weekend that will serve as their final prep for the Conference USA Indoor Championships. Most athletes will be running/jumping/throwing at the Don Kirby Invitational (Albuquerque, N.M.), while a select few distance runners will head to the Husky Classic (Seattle, Wash.).
