UTEP’s Sorenson named co-CUSA Golfer of the Week

IRVING, Texas- After a stellar opening weekend at the Gene Miranda Invite, UTEP sophomore Andreas Sorenson was named Co-C-USA Men’s Golfer of the Week, the first of his career. He shares the honor with Billy Tom Sargent of WKU.

Sorenson fired a career-low seven-under-par 209 to take a career-best runner-up finish at the invite in Colorado Springs. The sophomore helped lead the Miners to a share of the tourney title with UNLV. The Miners shot 863 (286-287-290) as a team.

It marked the second consecutive year that UTEP has captured a tournament title, the team also took first place at the Herb Wimberly Intercollegiate in October of 2015 in Las Cruces.

The men’s golf team will return to action Sept. 23-24 when it travels to Albuquerque, N.M. to tee off at the William H. Tucker Invitational.
