HARTFORD, WI – UTEP men’s golf junior Aaron Terrazas put together three strong rounds to finish in the top-20 of the Marquette Intercollegiate at the Erin Hills Golf Course, site of the US Open in June (par 72/7,722 yards), in Hartford, WI on Tuesday.
Terrazas fired a final round of 73 for a 3-over 219 (70-76-73) tournament total and a share of 12th place.
As a team, the Miners finished in 12th place in the tough field after shooting 46-over 910 (291-313-306). Texas A&M took the Intercollegiate title after its 2-over 866 (293-287-286) performance.
“I’m proud of Aaron,” head coach Scott Lieberwirth said. “He had a nice tournament. We played a little better today, it [Erin Hills Golf Course] played tougher as each day went by. It’s a difficult golf course, but we also shot ourselves in the foot at times.”
Terrazas tallied four birdies in the final round for nine total through the tournament to lead the Miners and was tied for second in the field in Par 4 scoring (3.93 avg./-2).
Behind Terrazas’ lead, senior Charles Corner finished just outside the top-20 with his 8-over 224 (71-75-78) showing to finish in a tie for 22nd. Corner was second in the field in pars with 38 throughout the three days. Classmate Nicklas Pihl matched Corner’s final round of 78 for an 18-over 234 (73-83-78) Intercollegiate total and a share of 65th. Pihl’s final round saw two birdies.
Settavut Paradee shot a round three score of 79 to complete his showing of 22-over 238 (80-79-79) to tie for 75th. Paradee had a steady round with a birdie. A stroke behind, Prescott Mann finished with a share of 79th after his final round of 77. Mann rounded out the Miner scorecard and tournament with a 23-over 239 (77-85-77) showing, collecting a birdie.
UTEP led the field in pars with 163.
The Miners will return to the Southwest for their final two events of the fall, beginning with the Herb Wimberly Intercollegiate, hosted by NM State, Oct. 16-17. Four days after that, the Miners will close out the fall season with their only home tournament, the Price’s Give ‘Em Five Invitational, Oct. 20-22 at the Butterfield Trail Golf Course.
