Irving, Texas – Nickevea Wilson was named the Conference USA Women’s Field Performer of the Meet on Friday morning as announced by the league offices. C-USA track and field head coaches from around the league voted on the awards.
Wilson closed out her C-USA career with a stellar performance in both the long and triple jump. Wilson claimed her third career gold medal in the triple jump at the C-USA Indoor Championships. The Jamaican recorded a mark of 12.92m (42-4.75) on her third jump to secure the title.
The senior also tallied five points integral to UTEP’s championship run in the long jump with a finish of fourth. Wilson recorded a season-best mark of 5.89m (19-4.00) in the event. It was the first time in her career that she scored in the long jump at the C-USA Indoor Championships.
The UTEP women’s team won their second-consecutive Conference USA Indoor Championship last week in Birmingham, Ala., with the assistance of Wilson’s efforts.
Wilson will be one of only two Miner athletes to be competing at the NCAA Championships in Birminghamnext Friday and Saturday (March 11-12th). Wilson’s season-best jump of 13.22m qualified her for the NCAA Championships with the 11th-best mark in the country. Jonah Koech, from the men’s team, will take the seventh-fastest mile time with him to the NCAA Championships.
Wilson will compete on Friday (March 11th) in the triple jump and Koech will run in the semifinals on Fridayas well.
