LAS CRUCES – Vanessa Valdez and Lina Sáchica took home the crown in the doubles back draw to cap the action for the UTEP tennis team at the NM State Aggie Fall Invite on Sunday. Additionally, Sáchica picked up another win in singles play.
“It was a good finish to the tournament,” UTEP head coach Ivan Fernandez said. “Vane (Vanessa Valdez) and Lina (Sáchica) won the back draw of the top doubles flight while Lina closed out the weekend with another win. Overall it was a positive weekend. Now we get back to work before heading off to San Diego this Thursday.”
Valdez and Sáchica dominated Nicold Gonzalez and Kajsa Gedlitchska (WNMU), 6-0, in the back draw finals. It marked the duo’s third straight victory at the event.
Sáchica then took care of business in singles play, dispatching Melissa Ariza (UTPB), 6-0, 6-0, to take home third place in the Crimson Draw.
UTEP will be back in action when it plays at the SDSU Invite September 27-29.
