Video + Story – Know Before You Go: UTEP Minerpalooza 2016

Celebrating 26 years, Minerpalooza 2016 will feature activities and entertainment for all ages this Friday

Minerpalooza is an evening of food, games, live music and a celebration of the start of the fall semester. Visitors are welcome to bring their own chairs to watch the free entertainment.

This year’s talent lineup includes headliner Sky (formerly of LMFAO); pop duo Nina Sky; local Spanish rock band SayVerse and the death-defying Motorcycle Globe of Death. Local favorite Azucar, followed by the UTEP Pantastics steel drum ensemble, will kick off the evening’s live entertainment.

Food vendors including UTEP Food Services, El Cruzero Mexican Grill, Craze, Off the Grill, StrEATery and Famous Daves will be posted throughout the event grounds serving up food and snack items starting at under $3. Cash, credit and debit cards are accepted.

Pete’s Playground will operate from 6 to 11 p.m. and will be located near the north entrance of the Sun Bowl. The family-friendly games and inflatables in this area will require tickets, which may be purchased with cash or credit card. Each activity will requires one to three tickets to play. Tickets cannot be used to purchase menu items.

No refunds will be issued for unused tickets. These games are one of the largest annual fundraisers for UTEP’s student organizations.

The UTEP football team will host a meet-and-greet session from 7:30 to 9 p.m. in the Larry K. Durham Center following the pep rally. Coach Sean Kugler and the team will be available for autographs. There will be UTEP football posters and giveaways. Autographs are limited to one item per person.

Adult activities include a beer and wine garden and a silent auction.

Free parking will be available around campus starting at 5 p.m. and there will be an ADA shuttle running between parking lot S-3 and the Minerpalooza venue starting at 5:30 p.m. and ending at 12:30 a.m. Parking will be free in the Sun Bowl and Schuster parking garages; parking in the Glory Road Parking Garage costs $10.

Media parking is in lot P-8.

Minerpalooza is a concealed campus carry exclusion zone, and concealed handgun license carriers are not permitted to bring weapons into the event.
