The season got off to a back and forth start for the Austin Panthers and the Canutillo Eagles Thursday night in Central El Paso.
Canutillo was in control for most of the game, but it was the fourth quarter when the Panthers struck.
Austin scored with a little over ten minutes to go in the game to take a 16 to 14 lead over the Eagles. While the Panther defense stiffened, pinning Canutillo back at their own 35 yard line, the Eagles struck back.
With the visiting Eagles facing a 4th and 19, a desperation 30+ yard pass was completed from Devin Granados to the waiting arms of Sophomore LJ Martin, setting up the last-second game-winning field goal by kicker Abraham Avila.
