The El Paso Chihuahuas battled out a 5-2 win over the Albuquerque Isotopes on Thursday to lead the series 2-1.
El Paso starter Jerry Keel (4.60 ERA) went six innings and gave up two runs on six hits. The first run came as an RBI single to shortstop Pat Valaika in the 1st.
The Chihuahuas wasted no time reclaiming their house when second baseman Esteban Quiroz (.317 BA) lifted a homer past the GECU Green Seats in the 2nd inning.
The Dogs tacked on a couple more, as catcher Chris Stewart (.217 BA) hit one off the left field foul pole in the 2nd inning and third baseman Seth Mejias-Brean (.322 BA) singled in a run in the 3rd inning.
The Chihuahuas added two more runs in the 7th inning when Quiroz popped a broken-bat looper into shallow center field that scored two runs, El Paso 5-2.
The winning pitcher was Keel (3-0) and the losing pitcher was Jake McGee, who is on a minor league rehab assignment for the Rockies after a left knee sprain in April. Attendance was 8,792 at Southwest University Park.
