Video+Story: Walkoff Single Lifts Chihuahuas over ‘Cats 6-5
Tony Cruz struck a two-out, pinch-hit, walkoff single in the bottom of the ninth inning Sunday to give the El Paso Chihuahuas a 6-5 win over the Sacramento River Cats.
It was the third walkoff victory of the year for El Paso, with the previous two coming on Franchy Cordero game-ending singles.
The Chihuahuas won three of the four games against Sacramento and kept pace with the Salt Lake Bees, who won Sunday in Albuquerque. El Paso is in second place, trailing by one game, with eight regular season games remaining for both teams.
The Chihuahuas started five of their innings with leadoff singles. El Paso starting pitcher Kyle Lloyd went 1-for-2 batting and is 6-for-15 at the plate this year.
The Chihuahuas begin the final home series of the regular season on Monday.
