FILE: The sixth-inning rally included a three-run home run to center field by Franchy Cordero on the day he was optioned from San Diego
Franchy Cordero went 5-for-5 with four RBIs and two stolen bases in the El Paso Chihuahuas’ 9-8 win over the Albuquerque Isotopes Thursday night at Southwest University Park. Cordero joined Abraham Almonte, Alex Dickerson, Rocky Gale and Manuel Margot as players to collect five hits in a game for the Chihuahuas.
The back-and-forth game was tied 5-5 after five innings and tied 8-8 after seven innings. In the bottom of the eighth, Cordero led off with a single, stole second base, advanced to third on Jose Pirela’s sacrifice bunt and scored on Collin Cowgill’s fielder’s choice.
Phil Maton closed the game for his fourth save of the season.
Nick Buss went 3-for-4 with four RBIs, falling a triple shy of a cycle. His home run was his second in his last three games. The win snapped El Paso’s three-game losing streak. The Isotopes have scored two first inning runs in all three games of the series so far.
