Pinball machines have been around since the 1930’s. The early versions were very simple. They were basic ball and flipper configurations. It didn’t take them long to move into more complicated electro-mechanical type machines with tons of motors, relays, etc. making the machine work.
In the late 60’s / early 70’s machines starting using solid state digital inner workings. Digital enabled them to become much more intricate with using actual voices and sounds for playback.
Today’s machines compared to the early ones from the 30’s have much more packed onto the playfield. The current machines have ramps, digital displays, interactive props, and more.
It will be interesting to see where they go from here.
The Pinball Hall of Fame Museum in Las Vegas is 25,000 square feet of nostalgic arcade goodness. They opened in their new location at 4925 Las Vegas Blvd South, Las Vegas NV 89119 on 4/15/2021.
They are located across the street from the classic ‘Welcome to Las Vegas’ sign. If you love pinballs do yourself a favor and check them out.
