UTEP's Walter Neil

UTEP’s Walter Neil, Jr. named to Reese’s Senior Bowl Watch List

UTEP cornerback Walter Neil, Jr., who is gearing up for his first season with the Miners, has been named to the Reese’s Senior Bowl Watch List.

Neil joined the Miners prior to spring practice after spending four seasons at Kansas State from 2016-19. In his time at K-State, Neil started 18 games at cornerback and saw action in a total of 30 games from 2017 to 2019 before entering the transfer portal prior to the 2020 season.

“We are excited to see the impact Walter has on our program this fall,” head coach Dana Dimel said. “The experience and leadership he brings to the table is huge for this football team. It’s a testament to his hard work to have him named to the Senior Bowl Watch List ahead of the season.”

In his final season with the Wildcats, Neil started 10 games at cornerback, tallying 21 total tackles, 1.5 tackles for loss, two pass breakups and an interception. In 2018, he started all eight games he played in and finished fifth on the team with 40 tackles, while also adding two pass breakups on the season.

Now in 2021, Neil is reunited with Dimel, who served as the Co-Offensive Coordinator at Kansas State from 2011-17.

The Reese’s Senior Bowl is the nation’s most prestigious college all-star game, as it annually serves as the first step of the NFL Draft process.

The Reese’s Senior Bowl had 106 total players drafted and 36 selected in the first three rounds this year’s NFL Draft. The 106 figure represents 41 pct. of the NFL Draft. This year’s game will be held February 5, 2022, and will be broadcast on the NFL Network.

Practices will be live on ESPN and NFL Network hosts a daily recap show each evening in primetime.
