Long-Awaited Westside Natatorium Set to Open April 7th

The City of El Paso is celebrating the grand opening of its Westside Natatorium with two days of activities that kick off with a ceremony and a USA Swimming sanctioned competition.

The grand opening weekend will showcase the many capabilities of this state-of-the art facility. Activities include a competition featuring local, state and international swimmers, free food, music and plenty of free giveaways for the public to enjoy.

During the first day of the event, competitors will utilize one side of this new Olympic size pool to participate in a USA Swimming competition.

During the swim meet, the other side of the pool will be open for the public to enjoy activities such as lap swimming, an aquatic obstacle course, and a floating fitness mat.  On the second day, activities will include aqua jogging, adult coaching techniques for conditioning, lap swimming, an aquatic obstacle course, and water polo.

The $15.5 million Westside Natatorium is part of the 2012 Quality of Life Bond Program and was designed to meet United States of America Swimming (USAS) standards for competitions, and LEED Silver standards.  Other of the facility’s features include:

  • Seating for approximately 780 spectators;
  • Movable bleachers along the deck area providing additional seating for up to 224 competitors;
  • A new 220-space parking lot with a designated area for food trucks; and

A public art piece, Marquise by Marc Fornes on the facade of the main entrance.
