White Sands “Moth Man” to Speak at Greater Big Bend Coalition Meeting Saturday

The Greater Big Bend Coalition is sponsoring a special free presentation on the amazing discoveries of new desert moth species being made in southern New Mexico at the Northeast Regional Command Center Community Room on Saturday, May 20 at 11am.

Eric Metzler from Alamogordo is the Adjunct Curator of Lepidoptera at Michigan State University, and a Research Collaborator at the U.S. National Museum of Natural History (Smithsonian).

Working with the National Park Service at Carlsbad Caverns National Park and White Sands National Monument Eric has discovered and described several species of moths, new to science, in these national parks. photo number 4

In 2014 he received the National Park Service Regional Director’s Award for Natural Resource Research.

The Greater Big Bend Coalition is a conservation organization in El Paso working to help protect the desert lands, rivers, mountains and wildlife of the Greater Big Bend Ecosystem of Texas and northern Mexico.

The region stretches across the US/Mexico Rio Grande border and includes nearly 8000 square miles of protected lands in US National Parks, Texas State Parks and Protected Areas in Mexico.
