Video: Will Smith is a Blue Genie in Disney’s Aladdin live action remake

Disney’s animated Aladdin was a huge success. Casting Robin Williams as the genie turned out to be a great idea. Robin’s animated mannerisms fit the genie’s persona perfectly. His portrayal of the genie was iconic.

Disney is in the midst of making “live action” remakes of a lot of their popular titles. I put live action in quotes as they still rely heavily on CGI. They dropped the newest trailer for Aladdin with Will Smith portraying the genie.

Not only did they make him blue, but they CGI’d his face onto a big, buff genie body. Something about the look draws you right out of the trailer. The appearance is a bit jarring to the eyes.

When Marvel first showed early clips of Thanos, people complained about his appearance as well. Marvel took note and went back in and improved the CGI to the point that you believe his character is there in the movie.

Let’s hope Disney does the same with the genie and makes him blend into the movie better.

Do you agree with us about how Will Smith looks as a CGI genie in the trailer? Or do you not mind his appearance? Let us know in the comments.
