With 1st Visit to Sun City, Wine ‘Hero’ Invites El Pasoans to Conquer Stodgy Ideas about Wine

One of the rising stars of the American winemaking industry is making his first visit to the Sun City and El Pasoans are invited to dine with him later this month.

André Hueston Mack was a sommelier at Thomas Keller’s renowned French Laundry in California’s Napa Valley and has been featured on ABC’s The Taste and CNBC’s Closing Bell on which he was called a “hero in the wine world.” Mack has also been featured in The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal and Food & Wine magazine.

Salt Box Pours & Provisions will welcome Mack to El Paso on Wednesday, January 25, and Thursday, January 26, 2017.

Five-course wine dinners with specially curated menus will be held both nights at 5:30 p.m. and 8:30 p.m. Reservations are available by calling (915) 307-3222 or emailing manny@saltboxpp.com. The cost is $89 per person plus taxes and gratuity.

“Salt Box is El Paso’s first and only truly wine-centered dining experience,” said owner Manny Jemente. “We’re pleased to give El Pasoans the opportunity to enjoy a multi-course menu specifically designed to compliment André’s wines while hearing directly from him about his philosophy about wine and making it more accessible to all of us.”

Mack is an ardent wine educator who has hosted seminars and lead panel discussions at top industry gatherings across the United States including Aspen Food & Wine Classic and Newport Mansions Wine and Food Festivals. He now produces wine in Oregon’s Willamette Valley under his own label, Mouton Noir, which is sold all over the world. He is also a graphic designer and author.

“Wine is not a beverage reserved for the elite, but it can be enjoyed by everyone,” Mack said. “It’s not meant only to be collected, but to enhance your meal and your way of life.”

Salt Box Pours & Provisions, located at 204 Boston Avenue in El Paso, opened in 2016. Owned by Certified Sommelier, Manny Jemente, and Chef Norbert Portillo of Tabla and Ode, Salt Box pays homage to the warmth and hospitality of home and offers carefully sourced wines that are not currently seen or served in El Paso.

These unique wines are complimented by a menu featuring locally sourced, seasonal ingredients, artisinal cheese selection that is flown in on a weekly basis and pastas made from scratch.
