Louisville, Ky – UTEP’s Winny Koech finished the 2017 season with a top-20 finish at the NCAA Championship in Louisville, early Saturday morning.
Koech ran a personal-best 6K time of 19:53.7 to finish 19th overall in a competitive field of 255 runners. The Kenya native improved from last year’s showing when she finished 92nd with a time of 20:47.8.
Finishing in the top-40 earned her first career All-American honor and is the first Miner to receive first team honors since Risper Kimaiyo (2012) who finished fifth overall.
Keoch led the Miners in each race this year with notable performances at the Joe Piane Notre Dame Invitational (16:55.6/27th), Adidas DI Pre-Nationals (20:03.3/10th), she registered a second-place showing at the league championships with a time of 16:38.6 and notched a fourth-place finishing at the NCAA Mountain Regional Meet.
