Women’s Fund of El Paso Gears up for ‘Power of the Purse’

The Women’s Fund of El Paso (WFEP) will be hosting Power of the Purse, their 9th signature fundraising event, on March 1st, 2019 at EPIC Railyard Event Center.

“Ensuring that the community is aware of these barriers of access for women is crucial to begin the conversation into finding a viable solution,” said Georgina Hernandez, President of the Women’s Fund of El Paso

Held every 18 months, the event attracts over 300 guests and includes a silent auction featuring new and vintage handbags and other gift packages, and a Mercado with new and gently used handbags.

WFEP officials add, “Through this effort, proceeds assist the Women’s Fund of El Paso to meet the demand for scholarships and help make a measurable difference in the lives of women and their families. ”

The Women’s Fund of El Paso was founded in 2004 to promote access to funding, information, and networking to help women receive a better education, develop critical leadership skills and achieve personal economic growth.

Since its inception, the Women’s Fund has awarded over $300,000 in scholarships, tuition assistance and child care for low-income single mothers and other women. Even when tuition may be covered by grants or other scholarships, the cost of childcare is a barrier for women to continue their education.
