Woody L. Hunt Honored as Business Leader, Philanthropist, and Education Reformer

AUSTIN – On Tuesday, December 5th, the Texas Business Leadership Council recognized El Paso developer, philanthropist, and education reformer Woody L. Hunt with their annual honor, the Richard W. Weekley Public Policy Leadership Award.

Woody L. Hunt is Executive Chairman of the Board of Directors of Hunt Companies, Inc. and its affiliated companies. Founded in 1947, Hunt Companies, Inc. is today a holding company that invests and operates in businesses focused in the real estate and infrastructure markets.

Additionally, Hunt sits on the boards of El Paso Electric Company and WestStar Bank.

Hunt’s civic involvement spans several decades and includes service on multiple boards and commissions including his service as Vice Chairman of the University of Texas Board of Regents, Chairman of the Board of Directors of The University of Texas Investment Management Company, member of the Board of Visitors of the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center-Houston, and Chairman of the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board’s Strategic Planning Committee – where he helped to write Texas’ next higher education plan, 60X30TX.

Additionally, Hunt’s involvement in education policy and philanthropy includes serving as a member of the Board of Directors for Complete College America, as a Foundation Trustee of the College for all Texans Foundation, and Co-chair for Texas Aspires.

Hunt is also Founding Chairman of The Borderplex Alliance in El Paso, and is a past Chairman of the Texas Business Leadership Council, where he also serves on the Executive Committee.

The Texas Business Leadership Council is a network of Texas based CEOs and senior business executives who advance a long-term vision of a prosperous Texas in a globally competitive business environment. The Texas Business Leadership Council’s Richard W. Weekley Public Policy Leadership Award was established in 2014 to celebrate the organization’s 20th anniversary.

The award acknowledges the invaluable contributions made by business leaders in developing sound public policy for the benefit of the State of Texas and its citizens.
