As part of their goals to increase, simplify, and enhance Workforce Solutions Borderplex (WSB) services, the organization announced Friday the opening of Virtual Employment Services (VES) station downtown at the Kelly Center for Hunger Relief.
The center is located at 915 East Florence Street.
The VES station will be available to the public during their business hours, Monday through Friday from 8:00am to 4:00pm and on Saturday from 8:00am to 12:00pm.
Officials share that Workforce Solutions Borderplex services will include virtual one-on-one experiences in resume writing, job searching, workinTexas.com registration, job referrals, and assistance with determining jobseeker career path options. WSB can also assist with referrals for certifications, training, and workshops.
Currently Workforce Solutions Borderplex’s downtown location is closed for planned construction of the new Mexican American Cultural Center and upgrades and renovations to the Main Branch of the El Paso Public Library.
Downtown residents are encouraged to visit the VES station during this temporary closure.
“Local youth and hard to serve populations are often facing food insecurity. The Kelly Center for Hunger Relief focuses on the root causes of food insecurity, with the lack of employment always being a major barrier. Through their case management services utilizing motivational interviewing, the FreshStart team at the Kelly Center began hosting drive-thru job fairs in June of 2020 and have continued throughout the pandemic,” said Lucio Glenn, Community Resources Development Specialist with Workforce Solutions Borderplex.
“Our partnership was a result of successful outcomes from our Solutions Crew Pop-Ups and we are pleased to work with the Kelly Center for Hunger Relief.”
“The FreshStart program continues to see many community members in need of employment and not being able to find any jobs through their own efforts,” said FreshStart Director Christal Tucker. “That is why our collaboration with Borderplex is crucial to closing the gap and connecting the prospective employees with prospective employers.”
A drive thru job fair at the VES location is planned for Wednesday, September 29th from 12:00 to 2:00pm.
The job fair will host multi-industry employers with entry-level to mid-level jobs. Registration is not required for the job fair.
