When you think of the Middle East one of the first things that comes to mind is camels. Before they had large cities, most of the population was Bedouin and they relied on camels as pack animals in the desert. Camels were well suited for this job as they could carry hundreds of pounds, go long periods without water, and were rather easily domesticated. Fast forward to now and camels are still very popular in these regions, but for different reasons. They now have camel races with large purses for the winners. They even have camel beauty contests with large monetary awards for those judged most pleasing to the eye.
