Ysleta ISD Hosts Panel Discussion on National Historic Preservation Act

The City of El Paso is celebrating the 50th anniversary of the National Historic Preservation Act during the month of May.

The Ysleta Independent School District, along with the El Paso County Historical Commission and District 19 Retired Teachers Association, will host a panel discussion and question-and-answer session at 6:30 p.m. May 12 at Cadwallader Elementary School.

Panelists include retired teacher Norma K. Irwin, El Paso County Commissioner Carlos Leon, Lois Kelley, Charley Glock, Laurie Cooper and an archival specialist.

The evening begins at 6 p.m. with a display of exhibits featuring the history and future of Cadwallader Elementary – built in 1924 – and a presentation called, “The Ysleta Schools on the Alameda Corridor.” The panel discussion follows at 6:30 p.m.
