Ysleta ISD provides update on Grab & Go School Meal Lunch Program

Ysleta ISD officials recently shared that the guidelines for the Grab & Go school meal program will change when the 2020-21 school year begins this week.

Effective Monday, August 17, parents will only be able to pick up breakfast and lunch meals from the campus where their child is enrolled, according to National School Lunch Program guidelines.

Families with children at multiple campuses MUST pick up meals at each individual campus where their child is enrolled, per state guidelines.

Breakfast and lunch meals will be available for curbside pick-up at their child’s campus from 7 to 11:30 a.m. Monday through Friday.

“Breakfast is provided free of charge for all Ysleta ISD students, regardless of their lunch application status,” district officials added.

Ysleta ISD has 46 CEP schools, where free lunch is provided to every enrolled student.

“In order to pick up school meals at their child’s campus, parents must provide documentation with the student’s name and school ID number,” YISD officials share. “The location of each school’s Grab & Go service will be determined by administration and the cafeteria manager.”

Students attending non-CEP schools may have to pay for lunch meals based on their lunch application status. If a student is required to pay reduced or full price for lunch, they must have money in their account.

Parents may deposit money in their child’s lunch account by providing exact cash or a check to the school cashier, or through www.myschoolbucks.com.

Once parents have provided the required documentation to the Child Nutrition employee at the Grab & Go location at their child’s school, the employee will locate the student’s corresponding index card with his/her name, ID number, and barcode, and write the student’s name and ID number on a windshield card that will be given to the parent. A

s a result, parents will not be required to provide the documentation on subsequent visits to that campus as long as the windshield card is visible to Child Nutrition employees.

For children with a food allergy or in need of special dietary accommodations, the parent will be asked to pull into a parking spot in a designated area to be provided with a meal that meets the student’s dietary restriction.

If a parent notifies staff that they will be visiting daily, the special meal will be prepared daily, labeled with the child’s name, and given to the parent upon arrival.
